Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Wednesday 15.02.2023

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions. Be careful in steep slopes with soft, wet snow, and in areas with wind slabs at higher elevations.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 14. February 2023

Lite snø for årstiden.

Mountain weather

Tuesday 14. February 2023

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Strong breeze from southwest. 0 °C to 3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 15. February 2023

2 mm precipitation, up to 7 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Strong breeze from south. -1 °C to 4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Generelt stabile forhold etter flere dager med mildvær. Små skred kan løses ut i bratt terreng med våt, løs snø, eller på de aller høyeste toppene der det kan finnes små ustabile fokksnøflak.
